How to Apply for a Mudra Loan Online: Step-by-Step Guide
Quick answer
Apply for a Mudra loan online on the government's JanSamarth portal (jansamarth.in) or on your bank's website or app. Check your eligibility, register with your mobile number, verify Aadhaar, PAN and Udyam, add your business and bank details, then pick a lender's offer and submit. Applying is free. The bank then verifies your details and decides on the loan.

Keep these ready before you start
Most online applications get stuck halfway because something is missing. Have these on your phone or laptop first:
-
Mobile number linked to your Aadhaar
OTPs for registration and e-sign go to this number.
-
Aadhaar and PAN
Your name should match exactly on both and on your bank account.
-
Udyam registration number
It's free on the official Udyam portal and takes a few minutes if you have Aadhaar and PAN.
-
Bank account details and statements for the last 6 to 12 months
Use the account your business money runs through.
-
GSTIN, if you're registered for GST
-
Your loan amount and what it's for
Quotations for machinery or stock help you enter a realistic project cost. The amount decides your category: Shishu, Kishore, Tarun or Tarun Plus.
-
A project report, for loans above ₹5 lakh
The portal may not ask for it, but the bank usually will during verification.

Which online route to use
JanSamarth portal
Most options · best for comparing lenders
The Ministry of Finance's portal for government credit schemes, launched in 2022 with 125+ lenders including all public sector banks. You check eligibility, apply once and choose from the offers you get.
Your bank's website or app
Best for people who already bank there
Many banks have their own online Mudra form (SBI calls it e-Mudra). Who can use it and up to what amount varies by bank, and some limit it to existing customers.
Udyamimitra or PSB Loans in 59 Minutes
Best for GST-registered businesses that file ITR
MUDRA's website also lists the Udyamimitra portal. PSB Loans in 59 Minutes reads your GST returns, ITR and bank statements to give an in-principle approval.
How to apply on JanSamarth, step by step
The flow has three parts: check eligibility, fill in the application, then choose a lender. Screen names may change slightly as the portal is updated.
Part 1: Check your eligibility
-
Open jansamarth.in and choose "Business Activity Loan"
It's under the loan categories on the home page. Type the address yourself rather than tapping a link in a message.
-
Tap "Check Eligibility" and pick your loan type
Choose "Other Business Loan" unless you fit a special category such as handloom weavers or street vendors, which have their own schemes.
-
Answer the business questions
Business type, location, social category and the estimated project cost.
Tip: enter the real cost from your quotations. An inflated figure gets cut down by the bank later and slows things down.
-
See your result
The portal shows the scheme you match (PMMY for most micro businesses), an indicative loan amount, EMI and tenure. Tap "Apply Now".
Part 2: Register and fill in the application
-
Register with your mobile number
Enter your mobile number and the captcha, then the OTP. This creates the login you'll use to track the application.
-
Verify Aadhaar, PAN and Udyam
The portal fetches and checks your details against these records.
Tip: if verification fails, it's usually a name or date-of-birth mismatch. Fix it at the source (Aadhaar or PAN) before trying again.
-
Add business and bank details
GSTIN (if any), business address, years in business and the bank account you'll use for the loan. Upload any documents the form asks for.
-
Review and submit
Check the amount, purpose and contact details once more. Submitting is free.
Part 3: Choose a lender
-
Compare the offers
The portal shows offers from different lenders with interest rate and tenure.
Tip: a branch near your business or the bank you already use is often quicker, even if its rate is a little higher. Compare benchmarks in our Mudra interest rates by bank.
-
Select an offer and get in-principle approval
The chosen lender gives a digital in-principle approval and takes the application forward. This isn't the final sanction yet.
Applying on your bank's website
The steps are similar on most banks' sites:
- Go to Loans › Business or MSME loans › Mudra (or e-Mudra) on the bank's official website or app.
- Fill in your personal, business and loan details.
- Upload KYC, business proof and bank statements.
- Give consent and e-sign with an Aadhaar OTP.
- Note the application or reference number the bank shows at the end.
If you already have a current account with the bank, it can see your transactions, which usually makes this route quicker.
What happens after you submit
- The bank contacts you to confirm details and ask for any missing documents.
- Verification: it checks your credit report and may visit your shop or unit.
- Sanction letter and Key Fact Statement: these show the amount, interest rate, fees, EMI and tenure. Read both before you accept.
- Signing: by e-sign or at the branch, depending on the bank.
- Disbursal: the money goes to your account, or straight to your supplier for machinery. Working-capital limits may come with a MUDRA Card.
How long this takes depends on the lender and the amount. Small loans with complete documents move fastest; Tarun and Tarun Plus loans take longer because the bank appraises your plan in more detail.
How to track your Mudra application
- Log in to jansamarth.in with your registered mobile number or email.
- Open My Applications on the dashboard to see the current status.
- For a bank-website application, use the reference number on the bank's status page or call the branch.
Mistakes that stall online applications
- Mobile number not linked to Aadhaar OTP verification fails. Update it at an Aadhaar centre first.
- Name spelt differently on PAN, Aadhaar and bank account Verification fails or the bank flags it. Correct the record that's wrong.
- Wrong business activity on Udyam The bank sees a mismatch with your actual business. Update your Udyam registration.
- Asking for more than the business can repay Size the loan to your monthly cash flow. Our loan eligibility calculator helps.
- Choosing a branch far from your business Branches usually lend within their area. Pick one near your shop or unit.
- Applying to several banks at once Each application can mean a credit check. Apply to one, and move on only if it's declined.
- Blurry or incomplete uploads Scan in good light and upload every page of each statement.
If you're rejected or don't hear back
- Ask for the reason. Request it from the branch in writing. Most rejections come down to credit history, documents or loan size, and all three can be worked on.
- Check your credit report and get errors corrected. See what lenders look at in your credit profile.
- Complain if there's no response. Write to the bank's grievance officer. If it doesn't resolve the issue within 30 days, you can complain to the RBI Ombudsman at cms.rbi.org.in.

You can apply fully online. The bank may still call you, visit your business or ask you to sign at the branch before it releases the money.

Only if your business is required to register for GST. If you have a GSTIN, enter it; it strengthens your application.

How will I know my application status?
Log in to JanSamarth and open My Applications, or use the reference number on your bank's website. The bank will also contact you on your registered mobile number.
